I worked at an institution for adults with mental disabilities. I primarily worked with 16 individuals who had all been committed by the court to live in a protected environment because of previous criminal acts. My job was structuring their day-to-day activities, help them cook and clean and accompanying them on outings. A part of my job was also to prevent future criminal activities and to help them deal with the consequences of their previous actions.

I worked at an institution for adults with mental disabilities. I primarily worked with 9 individuals where most of them had severe autism. They were all communicating non-verbally, which means I had to use pictograms and sign language for us to communicate in a constructive way. I also had to be very organized in the way that I worked, so the people I was taking care of would recognize what was going to happen next. Another part of the job was to help with personal hygiene, cooking, cleaning and feeding the people I was taking care of. Since several of the people also had physical disabilities a part of the job was also to use lifts to help them get in and out of bed and around in the bathroom.

After I finished my education, I was hired back where I did my internships in Fussingø Nature daycare center. In this daycare center our focus was on nature and how to use it in a sustainable way. We were outside in the forest with the children every day from 9am to 4pm no matter the weather. This gave us a great opportunity to explain how nature works, and to do a lot of different science experiments with the children. Ex. When does water become ice? How to make calk and charcoal? What happens if a plant doesn’t get enough light and water? Or if the soil is contaminated? All of this and much more was hands on experiences for the children. Alongside this we also taught the children how to use basic tools and how to survive in nature. This was all done to ensure the next generation will be better equipped to take care of the planet.

I went back to school to get a degree in childcare and adults with mental disabilities. The focus was children in the age of 0 – 12 years and their development, how to ensure it and recognize signs of neglect in the early stages, and how to take action to protect the child. The other part of the education was how to help adults with mental disabilities in a way that protects their dignity.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

TINY, EMOTIONS 101 STUDENT

It helped me learn to get into touch with my emotions. I think it’s important that everyone learns to recognize how they are feeling and then understand how to address those feelings. Our lives get hectic and the class helped me realize I needed to slow down.

R.B., SWAHILI STUDENT

Even when we forgot or made mistakes, she never, not once, got irritated or made us feel bad for not remembering or knowing. She was professional and caring, realizing every student learns in a different way and at their own pace...she has a great way of breaking things down and made learning fun.

CLADY, TENSION RELEASE EXERCISES®

Everything in the class was useful and valuable. I had more energy, felt happy and thankful. Very optimistic. I would highly recommended TRE®. Why?! Because the benefits are well worth it. It is like clicking a reset button on yourself. I thought it was perfect.

DK, EMOTIONS EDUCATION

These courses changed my life. They helped me to be a better listener and to hold space for others' emotions instead of always coming up with a solution. I am better at my job because of these courses on emotions.
